The Authour of Our Salvation

He became the author of our salvation unto all them that obey Him

Hebrews 5 8-9(KJV) "though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;"

The intention of an author plays a key role in how a book is written, arranged and described. An author typically wants you to see things through his lens, conveying the details of his understanding through the pages of the book. When you are reading on a subject, say Chemistry, for example, the author of a book explains the concepts of his understanding by stating principles, backing these with experiments that prove his truth. So it is with every subject. While the laws are stated, the proofs that the laws are true must also be provided to back the efficacy of the author’s presentation.

Unfortunately, whatever is made by man is never perfect, and with evolution and advancement, many times, or sometimes, these “truths” in books deviate from reality. A popular author on financial literacy and management went bankrupt a number of times. The words in the books sometimes turn up dead, or untrue, as events unfold, most times unpredicted and unknown to the author.

Hebrews 5 8-9(KJV) says “though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;“. This describes Jesus Christ as the author of our salvation, being made an example for us to follow. Like a book on a subject, He was the sacrifice laid out to bring forth the concept of salvation. He lived His life to prove the truth and then asked us to follow, just as He had proven it. He proved it by being obedient. Jesus Christ proved His oneness to the Father by living in obedience entirely.

John 5:19 says ‘Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. “Also, verse 30 says I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” Just like Christ lived His life to please the one who sent Him, so are we to follow.

How do we follow? By fellowship. A desire and pursuit to know Him. I explained earlier that concepts in books sometimes turned up dead. By being dead, I mean, become irrelevant to our current reality. Perhaps this is why books have revisions. Revisions exist to “update” books based on newly discovered truths and recent realities, and trust me, this is a never-ending cycle. You see, the Word of God is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), meaning it remains relevant throughout its existence.

While it never changes, its completeness is relevant for the past, the now and the future. It is our belief in Him, His Word that ushers us into the concept of salvation. We have faith in Him being the Son of the One True God, and by confessing it, we are saved. Romans 10:8-9 conveys it clearly, saying ‘ But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.’

He not only lived the journey, but it was also journaled for us that we may follow, believe and become. And just like in Chemistry, where laws exist, proofs to principles are made available through “tests”, the trials of our faith. This was the journey of Christ from birth to the cross.

Jesus Christ said He came to fulfil the laws and the prophets, not to abolish them ( Matthew 5:17), meaning he is the full embodiment of the Scripture. If the laws and prophets were proven by Him in the New Testament, this means that the books before Him and the new journals about Him all pointed to Him. This is perhaps the reason for the Inscription, The Word of God in Revelations 19:13, John 1:1 and John 1:14. The Word is Alive. The Word is Him, and in Him is Life. This Life is the Light which guides men. In truth, in getting to know Him, we cannot do it without sitting with His Word. Your view of the world is shaped by the lens through which you view the world. Ensure you have the right lens on, that is, a lens shaped by the Word of God.
