John 8:12 NKJV
John 8:12, “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Jesus explained how having him in your life gives light. One of the primary uses of light for men is to see. If there is light, it is difficult for a man to stumble or run into a wall, except influenced by another body or intoxicated by a substance. By Light, we see, and by it we walk. By light, we see the direction in which we must go. By Light we judge what is safe and what is unsafe. By Light, we discern, and by it we understand. The usefulness of Light is numerous, perhaps, that is why the first thing God created was Light.
Genesis 1:3-4 ; “Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.” We have established in previous devotionals that Jesus Christ is the Light. The first chapter of the gospel of John clearly conveys this. The true Light gives light to every man (John 1:9). We also know that Jesus, being the Light is also the Word of God. We can then deduce that by the Word of God, we can have Light. Psalm 119:130 (NASB) says ‘The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.’ God’s Word gives light, giving you direction to go, correcting you as you journey, and helps you prosper. Psalm 119:130 in the NKJV version says the “The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.”
The only way light enters you, as a human being, is through the eyes. You cannot hear or taste or taste or smell light. You can only see by it. God’s Words become the light by which you see. This way, you will not see the way mere men see. You will see life through a spiritual lens.
Matthew 6:22-23 (AMP) “The eye is the lamp of the body; so if your eye is clear [spiritually perceptive], your whole body will be full of light [benefiting from God’s precepts]. But if your eye is bad [spiritually blind], your whole body will be full of darkness [devoid of God’s precepts]. So if the [very] light inside you [your inner self, your heart, your conscience] is darkness, how great and terrible is that darkness!”. The Light helps you discern, not with physical eyes, but Spiritual.
To discern is to see beyond what is presented, obvious or physical. Hebrews 4:12 (NASB) says “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
By the Word, you gain true understanding, and by understanding, you can discern. In conclusion It is possible to walk through Life, whereby you will not stumble nor grope around in darkness because you have light in you. Fill your body with this Light as you study God’s Word, meditating on it day and night, judging everything by the standards of His Word and fellowship with Him. This is how you have good success. In Psalms 119:105, the Bible says ‘Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” Sit with the Word daily, meditating in it by the power of the Holy Spirit, and obeying every instruction that comes by it.
